It’s been a great spring, with a hint of summer here and there. As exciting as the weather, at least here in Finland, is the new Salesforce release for the summer.
Salesforce comes out with a new release three times a year and although they came out with their Spring '14 release a bit late this year, we are right back on track for Summer with the rollout in July.
The salesforce.com release website as well as the Salesforce Release Community is packed with excitement about what is to come. We strongly recommend that you visit these pages and leaf through the full set of release notes, but as we live and breathe Salesforce here in the Fluido office we wanted to share our insight on our favorite new features. It is quite an extensive list but let’s have a look at what the team chose:
RADIAN6 BUDDY MEDIA SOCIAL STUDIO: Collaborate, plan, listen, and engage in one application. With the new Radian6 Buddy Media Social Studio you can organize your brands and accounts into teams, track performance, compose content, and engage with customers across social channels.
NATIVE SOCIAL NETWORK ACTIONS: Improve agent productivity with in-app social actions. Agents can now take action on social network posts right from the Case Feed. For example they can delete a social post without ever leaving Service Cloud.
RESPOND TO SOCIAL POSTS: Close cases faster from the palm of your hand. Now, agents can respond to social posts related to a case right from the Salesforce1 Mobile App.
CHATTER NOTIFICATION BANNER: Sounds like a great way to notify your users of anything important. A banner that will appear on top of the page (under the tabs). As of now it will appear on all pages for accounts, contacts, and dashboards and in the setup area.
Salesforce Admin favorites
SHARING RULES: Sharing available for the user object. For example, in a large organisation you can set the user object to private and not allow users to see detail information about the owner of a record.
DELEGATED ADMIN PERMISSIONS: Increase control over permission sets. With the new Delegated Admin Permissions in Summer ’14, you can give delegated admins more control over the type of permissions they assign to their specific users.
25MB ATTACHMENTS: Expand the possibilities for file attachments. With Summer ’14, the default maximum file size for attachments has been raised to 25 MB from 5 MB. That’s a 5x increase!
Salesforce Developer favorites
FORMULA DATE AND TIME: Customize your activities like never before. Want to create a report of overdue tasks? Or maybe a report of tasks due this week? Now you can. The Date and Date/Time fields are now accessible, so you can create formulas and validation rules.
VISUALFORCE ANALYTICS: Visualforce: <analytics:reportChart>—Generally Available
Use the <analytics:reportChart> component to add Salesforce report charts to a Visualforce page. You can filter chart data to show specific results.
PRICEBOOKS IN APEX TESTS: Create Price Book Entries in Apex Tests. Apparently now it will be possible to create Price Book test data without having access to organization data in unit tests.
AUTONUMBER SEQUENCE: New Independent Auto-Number Sequence Test Option has been added to ensure that auto-number fields in your organization's records don’t have gaps due to test records created in Apex tests. You can enable this option from Setup by clicking Develop > Apex Test Execution > Options..., selecting Independent Auto-Number Sequence, and clicking OK.
JIRA INTEGRATION FOR PRODUCT INSIGHTS: Give your product development team insights into customer issues. Desk.com now provides a two-way integration with JIRA that instantly syncs information in both applications. Create a JIRA bug or issue right from Desk.com in response to a customer request. Your Desk.com case will have a direct link to the JIRA issue, and the JIRA issue will link directly back to the case inDesk.com. Your support and product teams can work together better than ever before to give your customers what they’re asking for.
QUERY PLAN: Speed Up Queries with the Query Plan Tool
The new Query Plan tool in the Developer Console can help speed up SOQL queries done over large volumes.
Use the Query Plan tool to optimize and speed up queries done over large volumes. To enable the tool, click Help > Preferences and set Enable Query Plan to true. To use the tool, enter your query and click the Query Plan button in the Query Editor. The Query Plan window displays all query operations and the cost of each.
Bits and pieces
LIST VIEW SORT: Find the exact information you need, right when you need it. With List View Sort, you can locate data in list views faster by controlling how information is sorted and displayed.
PIN FOLDERS IN REPORTS: No more searching for the folders that you always use. Pin it to the top - just one of those things that makes it faster to find what you are looking for.
OUTLOOK ENHANCEMENTS: looking forward to the improved Salesforce for Outlook.
PUBLISHER ACTIONS IN THE SIDE PANEL: Easily create records directly from your inbox. If you live in Outlook, why not have the ability to create Salesforce records directly in the Side Panel? With Publisher Actions, you can create records such as contacts and opportunities, and even events and tasks. You can also use any custom objects that you’ve created for your business.
DEFAULT EVENT ACTION: We know people have been waiting for this! You can now add events through Chatter in all publisher actions. Users can create an event on the Home tab, the Chatter tab and record detail pages without any setup.
MY EVENTS LIST: Your events in the palm of your hand. With My Events List, you can see what you have on your schedule by viewing a list of all the events you’ve created in Salesforce.
SIMILAR CASES (PILOT): Equip agents with the tools to solve cases faster. Agents can view similar cases that have already been solved right from within the Case Feed of the Service Console. Similar cases are assigned scores for how similar they are to the open case.
ATTACHMENTS COMPONENT & NOTIFICATIONS Gain visibility into related case content this functionality makes a notification appear when an attachment is added to a case, and the attachment component can be added to the Case Feed.
Most of us are testing these in the sandbox already! As said, also have a look at the release notes and all the different resources below. What do you look forward to the most in the upcoming release?
